In addition, pursuant to Board of Education regulations, the School Board establishes advisory committees for the following programs: special education and career and technical education. These committees shall serve without compensation for one-year terms.

A Gifted Education Advisory Committee will be established. The Committee will annually review the local plan for the education of gifted students, including revisions, and determine the extent to which the plan for the previous year was implemented. The comments and recommendations of the Committee will be submitted in writing directly to the School Board and the Superintendent. The Committee will reflect the ethnic and geographical composition of the school division.

A Career and Technical Education Advisory Committee will be established. The Committee will provide recommendations on current job needs, the relevancy of career and technical education programs offered, and assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of the local plan and application. The Committee will reflect the ethnic and geographical composition of the school division and include representatives from business, industry and labor.

A Special Education Advisory Committee will be established. The Committee will advise the school division on the needs in the education of children with disabilities, participate in the development of priorities and strategies for meeting identified needs of children with disabilities, submit periodic reports and recommendation regarding the education of children with disabilities to the Superintendent for transmission to the School Board, assist the school division in interpreting plans to the community for meeting the special needs of children with disabilities for educational services, review the policies and procedures for the provision of special educational and related services prior to submission to the School Board, and participate in the review of the school division’s annual plan. The Committee will reflect the ethnic and geographical composition of the school division. A majority of the committee shall be parents of children with disabilities or individuals with disabilities. The committee shall also include one teacher.

The division superintendent may establish and maintain other advisory committees comprised of employees, parents, patrons or citizens to provide input regarding matters relating to the efficient and effective operation of the school division.
