610P - Parent Organizations

The School Board encourages the establishment of parent organizations that seek to advance programs that support and improve educational opportunities for all students consistent with state and federal law. Examples of parent organizations include, but are not limited to, parent-teacher organizations, booster groups, a divisionwide parent council of representatives from each school parent-teacher organization, and other groups that promote student support, school support and the Board’s educational values. Parent organizations are independent and operate separately from school sponsored groups. Parent organizations must be organized as legal entities, operate with their own federal identification numbers issued by the Internal Revenue Service, and be governed by their own bylaws which allow for election of officers and operational procedures. The Board requests that parent organizations maintain a close relationship with the Board, administration, and staff, and that they consider School Board and school policies when planning activities.
