- Textbooks
Every student is to be furnished a copy of each basic text used in his/her program of instruction. Some texts which are available as classroom sets are not issued to the student for personal use at home on a regular basis. Each student will be permitted to take home the text periodically on an as needed basis.
Each school principal is responsible for the following items pertaining to textbooks:
- All textbooks must be stamped indicating that they are the Property of Frederick County Public Schools Textbook Fund.
- A student must pay the replacement cost for a lost book before being issued a new book. Refunds will be granted for texts found and returned by the end of the school year.
The charge to a student who has lost his/her book is as follows plus 10% to cover shipping.
- New book - Full price will be charged for textbooks that have been in use three years or less.
- Old book - Half price will be charged for textbooks that have been in use four or more years.
- Damaged book - Books damaged beyond repair will be treated as lost books. Damaged books that can be repaired will be charged 25% of the book cost.
- All textbooks listed on the approved Frederick County textbook list are to be ordered through the offices of the directors of elementary and middle/secondary instruction by the principal of each school.
- Any supplemental books or materials used in the classroom must be approved by the principal.
- Each school is to maintain an accurate textbook inventory.
- Each school is to use the transfer and disposition process for any textbook removed or added to the inventory.
- Handling and Care of Textbooks
- All books should be handled in a manner to preserve their usable condition.
- Repairs and mending may be done locally or by professional binding service at the direction of the assistant superintendent for instruction.
- Requests for Textbooks
All teachers are to make textbook requests through the principal or designee.
- Textbooks, Manuals, and Ancillary Materials
- All teacher’s editions of textbooks and ancillary materials published to accompany the texts are the property of Frederick County Public Schools.
- The principal or designee is responsible for maintaining an accurate inventory of textbooks, manuals, and ancillary materials.
- Textbooks, manuals, and ancillary materials may be transferred among schools as needed as the request of the directors of instruction.
